Ephemera are items that were intended to only be of short-term usefulness or popularity. The items are typically written or printed and may include tickets, posters, and the like. The term has also become used for letters, receipts, and other correspondence between people. Today, we find ephemera incredibly interesting as it often provides insight into the people of the time and place.
The Scarborough Historical Society, mainly through the efforts of Linda McLoon, has begun the process of identifying our ephemera by linking the item to individuals and documenting the location of the object.
The ephemera database is searchable and sortable. The search function is immediately above the data. The system searches all the text in all the fields at once. You may also sort by any field by clicking on the column heading. Clicking the heading a second time will reverse the sort order. Note: You may need to click in the table and then cursor left or right to see all of the fields.
The database then provides the box and sleeve number for the ephemeron identified so it may be easily located. Visitors to the museum are welcome to see the primary documents in the collection that are included in this finding aid.
